Electronic Books

The Matas Library collects books in both print and electronic format.    Electronic books may be searched in the Library Catalog, however there are a number of electronic books that are part of electronic collections that may not have individual records in the catalog.    Generally users must be on the Tulane network to access electronic item.  Please "log-in" with your Tulane email id  & password (proxy server) if you are off-campus.

Here is a listing of vendors from which we currently purchase or license health sciences electronic books: 

  • AccessMedicine (McGraw-Hill) - Harrison's, Hurst's, The Metabolic and Molecular Bases of Inherited Disease, Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment and The AccessLANGE texts.
  • Books@Ovid - Collection of eBooks from various health science publishers
  • ebrary - Collection of eBooks from various health science publishers
  • EBSCO eBooks (formerly NetLibrary) - Collection of eBooks selected for all disciplines at Tulane University
  • MDConsult (Elsevier) - core resources for clinical care 
  • Online Metabolic and Molecular Bases of Inherited Disease (OMMBID)  -  The definitive source for genetic research
  • Oxford Scholarship Online - Access to full text of titles published by Oxford Scholarship Online for the following collections and updates: Public Health and Epidemiology - February 2010, May 2010, September 2010, January 2011
  • PsychiatryOnline - books, journals, and self-assessment tools. Includes the DSM-IV-TR
  • R2Online - Collection of eBooks from various health science publishers
  • SpringerLink - Electronic books published by Springer during the years of 2005-2007. Donated to Tulane by Springer after Katrina. Look for green icon. 
  • Stat!Ref - Collection with ACP PIER and core resources for healthcare professionals
  • ScienceDirect (Elsevier) - Pharmacology, Toxicology, Biochemistry, Genetics, and Molecular biology. Look for the Green icon.
  • Wiley Interscience - Online Books in the health sciences and other disciplines

Online Collections of Reference Books:

e-Books are purchased or licensed as funds are available.  The Monographs Department handles the selection process, the purchase, cataloging and maintenance of the e-Book Collections.  The Matas Library's goal is to provide electronic resources that serve the students for study, faculty and reseachers for academic support.  Recommendations for purchase of electronic books are welcome.  Please indicate if you prefer an electronic version to print.  There is sometimes a problem obtaining licensure for the entire site.    Recommendation for Purchase online form
