Tip: Set up Personal Accounts in your favorite databases.
Here are a few helps for our major health sciences databases. Most databases have an option for users to set up and account. Many resources require an personal account for certain features, such as saving searches, or accessing a specific question/answer resource. The Matas Library recommends that users create a personal account for the Library databases that are used frequently or for complicated research. You may save your searches and also save citations for later use. Access to full-text may be enhanced by using the
in the live databases rather than from email or print.

Suggestion: Here is some information for setting preferences in MyNCBI in PubMed for LinkOut:
Once signed in to MyNCBI choose Preferences > PubMed Preferences > Outside Tool
At the Matas Library we use the
icon as a link resolver to locate full text. To turn on this service within a MyNCBI personal accout you must select a preference for the Matas Outside Tool, "otool feature".
After creating an MyNCBI account you may set filters and preferences. To turn on an Outside Tool, click on Preferences on the My NCBI sidebar and then click Outside Tool. Select "Tulane University Matas Library" from the available list and click Save; the selected icon will display in PubMed’s Abstract format. The Tulane Outside Tool is fully accessible only to individuals affiliated with Tulane University.
When you click on the
icon, you will then be directed to the available services for that citation offered by the Tulane Libraries.
