Public Access Computers in the Matas Library
The Matas Library has over 46 new desktop computers available for public use within the library study areas. All of the computers have a selection of productivity, medical, and public health specific applications installed. The library also has five laptops available for checkout for in library use. These laptops may also be used to create a computer lab teaching environment outside of the Matas Library, as we have an educational cart to make a mobile technology classroom.
Eighteen computers are located in the classroom on the mezzanine level of the library. This room may be reserved for exams and presentations; email medref@tulane.edu for further information. We also offer scanning and color printing via a flat bed scanner and a Xerox Phaser color laser printer. Ten computers are located adjacent to our service desk on the main level of the library, just inside thea front door.
A 24/7 study space is available in the Matas Library that provices computing, printing, scanning and VTS availability. This space offers two private group study rooms, tables and carrels with convenient electrical outlet access, nineteen computers and laser printing and a flat bed scanner. Ten of these computers host software* provided by the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine for after hours use. When the library is closed, the after-hours area is entered by swiping your Tulane University ID card at the controlled access door in the 2nd floor hallway nearest Charity Hospital. If your ID card does not provide access you may get it keyed at the security checkpoint in the lobby.
There are four laser printers and one color laser printer available for printing. By default each computer is set to print to the closest printer, but you may manually assign your print job to any available printer. Printing is controlled by the Pharos printing system; to retrieve your print job you will need to swipe you Tulane ID at the card swipe station adjacent to the each printer. The system will deduct the appropriate amount from the print credit balance first, then from the cash balance. Some students may receive a print credit at the beginning of every semester which may only be used for printing; they may also add cash to their card account using the VTS (black box) located in the 24/7 area of the library and at other locations around campus. Color printing is fifty cents per page; standard printing is ten cents per page.
