Matas Library History/Archives
The Matas Library Historic Collections are in a closed area that requires a scheduled appointment for use. Please contact the Matas Library Information Services Department at medref@tulane.edu, or (504)988-5155 to arrange a time. Special arrangements are required for any evening or weekend access.
The Matas Library Historical Collections contain information on the history of the Tulane Universities medical and public health programs and the history of medicine in Louisiana. Unfortunately our historic collections are not available in online systems and require in-house searches. Geneologists often request information on the graduates of the Tulane School of Medicine or on previous faculty and staff of the university. The Matas Library works along with the University Archives to search the historic school records. Artifacts, rare and fragile materials are also a part of this collection.
The Matas Librarians provide historical information from our collections to the best of our ability. We do have limited staffing and resources. We do not charge for this service.
Please consider making your interest and support of the Matas historical collections known by a letter of appreciation. If you are interested in making a donation towards the maintenance and support of the Rudolph Matas Library “historical collections”, you may contact either the Matas Library Administrative Office or the Tulane Office of Development.
