Hold and Recall
THE ITEM YOU NEED MUST BE CURRENTLY CHECKED OUT
TO USE HOLD AND RECALL SERVICES!
Holds and Recalls are special requests to have materials held for individuals when they are returned by other users and become available for check-out.
When are HOLDS available?
A Hold may be placed on any circulating item that is checked-out. The requester of the hold will be notified as soon as the current user returns the item. There is no penalty to the current user if they do not return the item until the original due date. A hold means that no one may renew the book and that no one else may check out the book once it is available in the library for a designated period. If you request a hold please come promptly to pick up the returned materials.
If there are multiple users requesting an item for hold there is a queue by date of hold request. If many people request an item that resource may be placed on Reserve for a time period until the immediate class demand is met.
When are RECALLS available?
A Recall may be placed once a book has been checked out to a user for at least two weeks. The current user may have their loan period shortened to accommodate the person requesting the item. The current user is notified by their Tulane email account. Fines are charged to users that do not return recalled items. After ten days the library charges $1.00 a day in overdue fines. Any patron with an outstanding recall will be blocked from library privileges until the item has been returned. Fines accrue to a maximum of $20.00. (The Library System only uses "@tulane.edu", so check your Tulane email!)
The requester of the RECALLED item will be notified by the Matas Library Desk, as soon as the current user returns the item.
Users may request a recall online, if all the borrowing time periods are meet.
TIMELY PICK-UP:
If you request a hold or recall please come promptly to pick up the returned materials. The returned item will be held for the user who has initiated the recall or hold for five days. If the patron does not pick up the material in that period, it will be sent back to the stacks or to the loaning library.
