The Matas Library encourages faculty, students and staff to make suggestions for purchase.

Purchase Requests - request that the library purchase a book for its collection or recommend that a serial title be considered for future licensure.  You will be contacted with regarding the status of your request.

The Librarians of the Matas library strive to build and maintain a collection of information resources, in both electronic and print, to meet the current and long-term biomedical information needs of the programs of the Health Sciences at Tulane University. Materials available in electronic form are generally preferred, if available via a site license, and if the cost is comparable to the print.  Regardless of print or electronic format, selection criteria are the same - subject relevance, intellectual content, level of presentation, and reputation of author and publisher.  Serials titles are generally licensed for electronic access.  The licensure process is timely and may require supportive funding from Tulane departments.

The scope of the collection of the Rudolph Matas Library is shaped by the library's mission and the needs of its clients. The library collects current scholarly information which supports the research, clinical, administrative and educational needs of its users. The collection covers the practice of medicine and related biomedical, public health and related disciplines, research literature, methodological literature, and in-depth, authoritative analyses of areas influencing biomedicine and health care. The collection is predominantly English.

The subject emphases of the collection reflect past and present research interests at Tulane. Basic collections are also maintained in related disciplines and cross-disciplinary areas.  Through cooperative networks and Interlibrary Loan services, the library ensures access to literature not owned by the library. The Tulane Library retains some older materials of medical and historical importance, even when they are no longer of use in clinical practice.

The Rudolph Matas Library Collection Development Manual is available in electronic format.
